Start the written lesson

Before you start

  • A verified connection to a practice site.

Let’s do this, step by step.

Step 01

Find the right content

Ask for available post types and a filtered list of posts with IDs and status.

WordPress can hold pages, posts, and other content types. Start with the actual record you need, and check whether it belongs to a page builder.

Step 02

Create a plain content draft

Create one draft with a title, content, excerpt, and a real featured image if available.

General content tools are useful for ordinary posts. If a page uses Elementor, switch to Elementor's tools for its visible builder content.

Step 03

Organize the draft

Inspect available categories or other taxonomies, then assign the intended terms.

Terms help organize content. Ask whether the change should add to existing categories or replace them, so existing organization is not lost.

Step 04

Update and read back

Change one field on the same post ID, read it back, then preview.

Only send the fields you want changed. Check the status is still draft and the featured image and links are correct.

Step 05

Review reading settings separately

If needed, read WordPress Reading settings and inspect writable options before a reviewed change.

Changing which page is the homepage is a site setting, not a content edit. Review the returned updated and skipped fields and check the homepage afterward.

You’re done when…

The intended draft is correctly organized and no unrelated site setting changed.
