WordPress MCP, compared

WooCommerce MCP Alternative: EMCP Compared

A first-party preview, or the whole store and the rest of your site.

Compare EMCP with WooCommerce’s built-in MCP integration: store coverage, setup, connection, safeguards and what each offers beyond products and orders.

The practical difference

WooCommerce’s own MCP integration is a free developer preview built into WooCommerce, with seven abilities for products and orders. EMCP Pro exposes about 120 WooCommerce operations through two tools, alongside page building, backups and wider WordPress tools.

Start with your site

Which one fits your site?

The useful question is which setup fits the next piece of work you need to ship.

01 / Built in

Choose WooCommerce MCP

You only need basic product and order operations, prefer a free first-party feature and are comfortable with a developer preview.

  • Use a free MCP integration built into WooCommerce itself.
  • Query, create, update and delete products, and query and update orders.
  • Connect through WP-CLI locally or a Node.js proxy for remote sites.
Read the vendor documentation
02 / EMCP Tools

Keep or start with EMCP

You work with coupons, customers, refunds, reports, settings or bulk catalog imports, or want store tools alongside page building and backups.

  • Run about 120 WooCommerce operations, from coupons and refunds to reports and settings.
  • Import products from a spreadsheet or PDF with a validated plan before anything is written.
  • Build store pages with Elementor and other builders, and back up the whole site with Pro.
Install the Free plugin

EMCP Pro and EMCP Cloud are separate products. Builder and plugin features also depend on what is installed on your site. Hosted fleet automation, bulk enrollment and managed configuration currently have restricted pilot access.

What mattersEMCP ToolsFree, Pro and optional CloudWooCommerce MCPCurrent vendor documentation
StatusA stable integration in EMCP Pro since 3.4.2, updated with each release. [2]A developer preview. WooCommerce notes that implementation details and APIs may change. [1]
SetupInstall EMCP Pro, then switch on woo-read and woo-write under EMCP Tools → Tools. [2]Turn on the mcp_integration feature flag in code or with WP-CLI. [1]
ConnectionConnect directly to your WordPress MCP server through OAuth, an Application Password or a local WP-CLI bridge. [3]WP-CLI for local sites, or an Application Password through the @automattic/mcp-wordpress-remote Node.js proxy for remote sites. [1]
Store coverageAbout 120 operations: products, variations, categories, tags, attributes, orders, notes, refunds, customers, coupons, reports, settings, payment gateways, shipping, taxes and webhooks. [2]Seven abilities: query, create, update and delete products; query orders, update order status and add order notes. [1]
SafeguardsReads and writes are separate tools, and refunds, deletions and batch changes need explicit confirmation. [2]Each ability runs its own WordPress permission check. WooCommerce advises a least-privilege user and warns that order data can include personal information. [1]
Beyond the storePage builders, content, SEO, backups and the rest of EMCP on the same connection. [4]Focused on WooCommerce products and orders. [1]
Product costFree plugin, optional EMCP Pro license and separate optional Cloud plans. Your AI provider and third-party plugin licenses are separate. [5]Included with WooCommerce at no extra cost. [1]

This is a documentation comparison, not a hands-on benchmark. Broad code or API access may support work beyond a dedicated tool. No tool-count score or unverified performance claim determines a winner.

Look a little closer

Differences to check before choosing.

A developer preview or a production integration

WooCommerce labels its MCP integration a developer preview and warns that its APIs may change. That makes it a good way to experiment with first-party tools. If agents will run day-to-day store work, check how often each option changes and how you will test updates.

WooCommerce MCP documentation

Seven abilities or the whole store

The native integration covers products and basic order handling. EMCP’s woo-read and woo-write tools run WooCommerce’s own REST controllers for the rest of the store, including coupons, customers, refunds, reports and settings, and add a validated import plan for bulk catalog changes.

Make the comparison concrete

Try the same task on staging.

A small test tells you more than matching tool names or counting integrations.

Read
“List my five most recent pages with their status and last edited date. Do not change anything.”
Shows whether each product can read your site accurately, without writing.
Build
“Build a landing page for a cooking school’s autumn workshop: a hero with a booking button, three benefits, and an FAQ with three questions. Leave it as a draft.”
Shows how each product builds a page you can still edit in your builder.

Then check these on both

  1. 1Step 1

Connect a staging store with each option and list the available store operations.

  2. 2Step 2

Update one product price and add a note to one order, then read both back.

  3. 3Step 3

Check which account each option uses and what customer data reaches your AI client.

Use comparable permissions and installed plugin versions. Check the editor, rendered result and recovery behavior before making the same change on a live site.

Common questions

About EMCP vs WooCommerce MCP.

Can I run both on the same store?

We have not tested them together. WooCommerce’s integration runs on the MCP Adapter’s default server, while EMCP registers its own server, so they appear as separate servers in your AI client. Read the source.

Do EMCP’s WooCommerce tools need Pro?

Yes. woo-read and woo-write are part of EMCP Pro and start off on new installs, so switch them on under EMCP Tools → Tools. Read the source.

Does customer data reach my AI provider?

It can, with either option. Any tool that reads orders or customers can pass that data to your AI client and its provider. Use a least-privilege account and check your provider’s data terms. Read the source.

Try one task first

Run the same task on staging.

Install EMCP Free, connect your AI client, and give EMCP and WooCommerce MCP the same small task. Compare the result, how editable it is, and how each one undoes the change.
