Connect an AI assistant in VS Code
Add the server to your installed VS Code MCP integration and test discovery.

Your next step is ready.
Follow the complete written guide below.
The video will join it here when it’s ready.
Before you start
- Complete Install EMCP Free and Pro and Connect an AI agent.
- Have the named app installed with MCP support available.
Let’s do this, step by step.
Step 01
Copy the site address
Open Setup → Connection → MCP. Check Server status and copy its endpoint. There is no VS Code card in this wizard; use the extension-specific manual route below.
Copy the server address from Connection. This wizard does not have a VS Code choice. We will configure the documented extension directly.
Step 02
Identify the VS Code integration
This route is for the ModelContextProtocol.mcp extension documented by EMCP. Confirm that extension is installed. For the Claude Code extension, use its separate academy lesson.
Check the extension name before editing settings. Different VS Code assistants use different files and formats.
Step 03
Add the site
For ModelContextProtocol.mcp, open settings.json and add the documented mcp.servers entry with type http and the copied endpoint. Preserve other settings. Omit Authorization for OAuth.
Add the server to this extension’s settings. Use the full address copied from WordPress. Keep the other settings intact.
Step 04
Complete the chosen sign-in
Start the server and approve WordPress for OAuth. For Application Passwords, create one in Users → Profile and use the extension’s documented Authorization configuration privately.
For browser sign-in, approve the intended WordPress account. For the password alternative, use a separate application password from your profile. Do not use your ordinary login password.
Step 05
Inspect status
Open the Command Palette and run MCP: Show Servers where available. Inspect emcp-tools and the extension's output if it fails.
A non-zero tool list means discovery has worked. If your extension uses different labels, open its equivalent server list and inspect the status.
Step 06
Check with a real request
Open a new conversation and send the prompt. Compare its answer with Pages in WordPress.
We are connected when the app can read actual records from this site. Check the site address and page titles. Leave editing for the next lesson.
Identify the WordPress site URL. List pages with titles, IDs and status. Do not make any changes.
You’re done when…
The app reads real page records from the intended site without changing anything.
Keep the reference handy.
The docs cover tool details and requirements for this lesson.
You only need the guide for the app or builder you use. Ready to build? Try an Elementor draft or use Gutenberg.
A brief becomes a real page.
