Before you start
- A verified connection and a practice site.
Let’s do this, step by step.
Step 01
Open Skills
Open Build → Skills. Inspect Install in your AI client and the Install guide tabs.
Skills are instructions for doing particular jobs. They help the AI follow a workflow, but they do not grant access to disabled actions.
Step 02
Install the matching format
Download the standard folder bundle for a compatible client, or the Claude Desktop bundle and import each inner skill ZIP individually.
Choose the format your app expects. Follow the per-client instructions rather than importing the outer Desktop bundle as one skill.
Step 03
Or load a skill at runtime
With Pro, turn on Let the agent load them at runtime on Skills. This controls the same Agent Skills module as Modules. Ask the AI to list and load a relevant skill.
Runtime loading lets the app request instructions when needed. Turning this off does not remove your local skill downloads.
Step 04
Verify its scope
Ask the AI to identify the loaded skill and inspect the installed tool schemas before beginning.
A playbook can describe more than an adapter supports. Current tool availability, permissions, and version requirements still decide what can run.
Step 05
Write a custom skill
With Pro, choose Write a custom skill or Manage custom skills, then New skill. Enter Name, unique Slug, When to use it and Instructions. Try Start from a template, inspect the context estimate, enable Inject into agent context and Save skill.
Create a short playbook for a task you repeat. Explain when to use it and write clear steps. Save the skill with its context switch on, then ask a new session to find and load it. Custom skills are shared at runtime, not added to the downloadable bundles.
You’re done when…
The AI identifies the relevant installed or runtime-loaded skill before the task.
